No. It's a single payment for the estate you're settling. There's nothing recurring and nothing to cancel.

When do I pay?

At the end. You run the eligibility check for free, answer the detail questions for free, and see a preview of your documents before you're asked for payment. You only pay to download the finished, unwatermarked packet.

What if I don't qualify?

You pay nothing. The eligibility check is free and it will tell you plainly if the affidavit route isn't open to you. That's the most useful thing we can do for someone in that position.

Which tier do I need?

Accepted Answer

Most people need the Small Estate Affidavit at $39: it covers bank accounts, final wages, a vehicle and personal belongings. You need the Estate Packet at $79 if there's real property involved, or if your state needs an affidavit of heirship to establish who the heirs are. The eligibility check tells you which applies before you pay.

Can I make corrections after I buy?

Yes, for twelve months, at no extra cost. Typos happen, and an account number you got wrong the first time shouldn't cost you another purchase. Re-download as many times as you need.

Do I need this for each state?

Accepted Answer

You need one purchase per estate, based on the state where the person legally lived when they died. If there's property in a second state, that generally needs a separate proceeding there, and our checker will route you to an attorney, because that's beyond what a self-help form should handle.

Why is an attorney so much more expensive?

An attorney is doing something different: taking professional responsibility for your matter, exercising judgment on facts we can't see, and appearing in court if needed. For a contested, insolvent or complicated estate that's worth $1,000–$3,000. For a $20,000 bank account and a car with no disputes, it usually isn't.
